WN/R: 5 suspected armed robbers nabbed in Sefwi Bekwai
The Ghana Police Service (GPS) has announced the arrest of five suspected armed robbers believed to be behind a series of robbery incidents in Sefwi Bekwai and surrounding communities.
The arrests were carried out by the Western North Regional Police Command.
The suspects have been identified as 20-year-old Iddrisu Abdalla, 21-year-old Abdul Rahaman Abubakar, 19-year-old Okasha Mohammed, 24-year-old Toffic Bawa, and 35-year-old Richard Gyapong.
According to a police statement, the arrests followed an intelligence-led surveillance operation in the Sefwi Bekwai area, during which officers intercepted three of the suspects who were riding an unregistered motorbike.
When the riders failed to stop at the Mpesiem Police Snap Checkpoint, they were pursued and apprehended.
A subsequent search of the suspects’ residences led to the discovery of a backpack filled with numerous talismans, a face mask, and several finger rings — items police say are suspected to be used in facilitating criminal activity.
