The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has denied reports that this year’s Food and Nutrition Practical paper of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) leaked.

This is in response to an allegation by the Executive Director of the African Education Watch (EduWATCH), Mr Kofi Asare, who claimed on social media that the paper was leaked.

"We reported to West African Examinations Council (WAEC) at 11:10 AM and can now confirm it is, indeed, a genuine leak. The paper is just starting at the Centres", Mr Asare posted on social media, adding that the group's monitoring systems to check the activities of WAEC during the 2021 WASSCE for school candidates with the help of OXFAM, is aimed at ensuring there is improved accountability in the education assessment sector.

But addressing the media, the Head of the Ghana Council of WAEC, Wendy E. Addy-Lamptey, indicated that effective mechanisms have been put in place to ensure the administration of a credible examination.

“The information put out by EduWatch about the alleged leakage is untrue, misleading, and it is creating anxiety among the candidates and the public,” she stated.

This year’s examination started on Monday, 16 August 2021.

Some 446,000 students from various Senior High schools (SHSs) across the country are writing this year’s WASSCE.
