34 Prisoners sit for 2024 BECE

Demonstrating resilience and an unwavering commitment to education, thirty-four prisoners are taking part in this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

This examination marks the transition from Junior High School to Senior High School and Technical Institutions.

The candidates, all male, are spread across various correctional facilities across the country.

The group comprises 27 juveniles from the Senior Correctional Centre (SCC), 5 inmates from Nsawam Maximum Security Prison, and 2 from Sunyani Central Prison.

Meanwhile, a total of 569,095 candidates are sitting for this year’s exam which began on Monday, 8 July 2024 at 2,123 designated centres across the country.

The exams will end on Monday, July 15, 2024.

Ahead of the start, the Ghana Education Service (GES) had congratulated the candidates and thanked teachers, heads of schools, directors of education, parents, and stakeholders for their support.

The GES also urged all involved to avoid examination malpractice, stating that measures are in place to ensure smooth conduct.

The Senior High School selection process will begin after the BECE, with details to be communicated later.
