A confrontation erupted at the Ministry of Finance on Wednesday, 4 September 2024, as the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) Brigade, a youth group affiliated with the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), clashed with security personnel.

The clash occurred while the group was protesting against alleged financial mismanagement by the current government.

The ORAL Brigade, predominantly made up of NDC’s youth wing members, staged the protest to demand greater accountability and transparency from President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo's administration.

According to the group, government had engaged in significant financial irregularities, prompting them to intensify their calls for scrutiny in recent weeks.

At the centre of their protest is the controversial USD34.9 million Ambulance Spare Parts deal, which the group claims involves dubious procurement processes and questionable use of funds intended for emergency medical services.

“This transaction exemplifies the kind of opaque deals draining public resources,” said a spokesperson for the ORAL Brigade.

The protesters also raised concerns over the Ghana Revenue Authority’s (GRA) partnership with Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML), calling for a full explanation of the arrangement.

Additionally, they demanded transparency regarding the expenditure on the 2023 All-African Games, questioning the management of public funds in these initiatives.

Despite the clash with security forces, the ORAL Brigade vowed to continue their campaign against what they see as rampant corruption and financial mismanagement, pledging to keep pressuring the government for answers and accountability.
