The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has disclosed that four teachers in Bekwai, Ashanti Region, have been caught engaging in examination malpractices.

The teachers were caught during the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), which commenced on Monday, 8 July 2024.

There have been multiple warnings from stakeholders, including President Nana Akufo-Addo, urging candidates to refrain from cheating.

The examination process has been largely smooth and peaceful.

However, Wendy Addy-Lamptey, Head of National Office for WAEC, highlighted a few incidents of malpractice during her media briefing after monitoring several examination centres.

“With regard to the conduct itself, I think we’ve had good conduct this morning and again this afternoon. I must say that we have just had a few reports. We have had a few people picked up, some teachers picked up in Obuasi, Bekwai, trying to help the candidate,” Ms. Addy-Lamptey stated.

She elaborated further: "About three or four of them, but as I said, we just had a report, so the details of it will be coming and then we’ll put it out."
