AIT President urges students to embrace lifelong learning in AI era
The President of the Accra Institute of Technology (AIT), Professor Clement K. Dzidonu, has urged university students to become deep thinkers, lifelong learners, innovators and responsible leaders capable of succeeding in a rapidly changing world shaped by artificial intelligence and digital technology.
He made the call during AIT’s matriculation ceremony at the university’s Knowledge City Campus in Kokomlemle, Accra, where 586 newly admitted students were formally inducted into the institution.
Speaking on the theme, “Preparing the Sovereign Learner for a World of Opportunity, Possibility and Difference,” Professor Dzidonu said the future would favour individuals who can think independently, adapt to change, solve problems creatively and contribute meaningfully to society.
He noted that universities must go beyond awarding degrees and focus on developing graduates with the knowledge, skills, character and resilience required in a technology-driven world.
“The rapidly evolving landscape of artificial intelligence, automation, and digital transformation demands graduates who can think for themselves, learn continuously, innovate fearlessly, and lead responsibly,” he said.
Professor Dzidonu reaffirmed AIT’s commitment to producing graduates who are technically competent, ethically grounded and globally competitive.
He encouraged students to adopt what he described as the Opportunity–Possibility–Difference (OPD) Perspective by identifying opportunities, exploring possibilities and creating positive change in their communities.
The AIT President also advised students to focus on building capability, character and discipline in addition to academic achievement.
The matriculating students are pursuing programmes in Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, Occupational Health and Safety Management, Project Management, as well as postgraduate and doctoral programmes.
Speaking on behalf of the matriculating class, Samuel Peace Kamara thanked the university’s leadership and staff for welcoming the new students and pledged their commitment to academic excellence and responsible conduct.
The ceremony ended with the administration of the matriculation oath and the formal admission of the students into the university community.
