C/R: President Mahama orders completion of Anomabu Fisheries College
President John Dramani Mahama has directed the Minister of Fisheries, Emelia Arthur, to collaborate with the Minister of Finance to secure the necessary funding for the completion of the Anomabu Fisheries College in the Central Region.
The project, initiated by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government in 2011, has remained unfinished since President Mahama left office.
The facility, located in Anomabu, includes lecture theatres, a principal’s residence, fish ponds, boreholes, and a water pumping station. Designed to accommodate 300 students, the college is expected to play a crucial role in promoting sustainable fishing practices and aquaculture education in Ghana.
During a visit to the site as part of his "thank you" tour of the Central Region, President Mahama stressed the urgent need to complete the institution.
He noted that the remaining work is minimal, requiring furniture, teaching materials, and the completion of campus roads before the college can begin operations.
To ensure its swift completion, he instructed the Fisheries and Finance Ministries to prioritize funding for the project, emphasizing its importance to Ghana’s fisheries and aquaculture sector.
