The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has firmly denied reports suggesting there were casualties during a recent protest by trained teachers at the Ministry of Education premises.

Responding to allegations made by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who claimed that the demonstration led to injuries, the Minister described the claims as "despicable lies" and challenged him to provide evidence to substantiate the assertions.

“There were no injuries, no harm done to anyone during the protest,” the Minister stated, emphasising that the demonstration was largely peaceful and managed without incident.

In a move to address the concerns raised by the protesters, Minister Iddrisu met with the leader of the group, Dafo Eric.

During the meeting, the petitioners expressed frustration over delays in receiving their staff identification numbers, despite having completed all required administrative processes.

The Minister acknowledged the issue and assured the group that steps were being taken to resolve the matter promptly.

He further revealed that the government plans to recruit 50,000 teachers as outlined in the 2025 Budget Statement—a move expected to ease some of the challenges faced by trained teachers awaiting employment.

Minister Iddrisu reiterated the government’s commitment to addressing the grievances of education professionals and urged calm and patience as the Ministry works toward lasting solutions.
