Six Ghanaian government-sponsored master’s students at Loughborough University in the UK have accused officials at the Ghana High Commission in London of assault and verbal abuse during a protest over unpaid scholarship funds.

The students demonstrated on Monday, saying they have not received tuition fees and stipends for over 18 months, with arrears totalling £238,852 (approximately ₵3,536,008). They say the delay has prevented some from graduating despite completing their studies.

Convener Noah Krah informed Citi News that officials failed to engage them for hours, and that two students were later taken inside where verbal insults were exchanged.

He also alleged that the High Commissioner, Sabah Zita Benson, and her assistant, Bridget Bonney, used abusive language and that one student who attempted to record the incident was assaulted, had her phone taken, and data deleted.

The group says a formal complaint has received no response and is demanding an investigation, payment of arrears, and a public apology, with possible legal action being considered.

The injured student was treated at hospital for a soft tissue injury and advised to seek further support, including police and mental health services.
