The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced that the government has fully cleared all outstanding arrears of the Capitation Grant owed to basic schools across the country, covering the period from 2023 to date.

In a press release signed by the Head of Public Relations at GES, Daniel Fenyi, the Service described the payment as a clear indication of the government's firm commitment to supporting the effective management and smooth operation of basic education in Ghana.

The Capitation Grant is a critical component of public basic education financing, providing essential funding for teaching and learning materials, minor repairs, and other school-based management activities.

GES noted that the timely disbursement of the grant enhances the autonomy and accountability of school heads in delivering quality education.

GES also expressed its appreciation to the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance for prioritising the payment despite prevailing economic challenges.

The Service commended heads of basic schools for their patience and dedication in maintaining uninterrupted teaching and learning during the period of delay.

The statement further urged all school leaders to utilise the funds responsibly and in strict adherence to the guidelines for the grant’s use.

It also assured that monitoring teams at district and regional levels will intensify supervision to ensure compliance and value for money.

Reaffirming its commitment to improving educational outcomes, GES pledged to continue working with stakeholders to enhance school management systems and ensure inclusive, equitable, and quality education for every Ghanaian child.
