Mahama announces plans to establish public university in Savannah Region

President John Dramani Mahama has announced that a public university will be established in the Savannah Region as part of efforts to expand access to tertiary education and promote regional development.
Mr. Mahama made the declaration during a community engagement in the region, emphasising that the move forms part of his broader vision to ensure inclusive and equitable access to quality education across all parts of Ghana.
“I am happy to announce that a public university will be established in the Savannah Region,” Mr. Mahama stated to loud applause from residents and stakeholders gathered at the event.
He noted that the university will not only provide higher education opportunities for the youth in the Savannah Region and beyond but also stimulate socio-economic growth through infrastructure development, job creation, and research activities tailored to the unique needs of the area.
The announcement has been welcomed by traditional leaders, youth groups, and educational stakeholders in the region, who have long advocated for the establishment of a tertiary institution to bridge the regional education gap.
