Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has donated sanitary and hygiene supplies to the New Horizon Special School in Accra to support the welfare of pupils and staff.

The donation was made during the school’s annual Fun Day and Games, which brought together children with special needs, teachers, caregivers and parents for a day of sporting activities and celebration.

Items presented included 50 boxes of soap, 100 boxes of sanitary pads and 50 bags of washing soap to improve hygiene and sanitation at the school. The Vice President said access to basic sanitary supplies is essential to safeguarding the health and dignity of children, particularly in special learning environments.

“Access to basic sanitary supplies is not a luxury; it is essential to the health, dignity and confidence of our children,” she said. “When we invest in their well-being, we strengthen their ability to learn and thrive.”

Addressing the gathering, Professor Opoku-Agyemang commended the school’s management and staff for their commitment to nurturing and empowering children with special needs, including those on the autism spectrum. She described the event as inspiring and encouraged participants to remain steadfast in pursuing their goals.

“Each of you is running your race with courage and determination,” she noted. “Do not give up.

Keep moving forward with endurance, knowing that your efforts matter.”

The pupils took part in activities such as the 60-metre race, sack race, bottle-filling challenge and wheelchair race, drawing cheers from parents and invited guests. All participating children were declared winners and awarded gold medals.

The Vice President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting inclusion and equal opportunities for all children, noting that national development must reflect the needs and contributions of every citizen.

Management of the New Horizon Special School expressed appreciation for the support, describing the donation as timely and impactful in strengthening hygiene standards at the facility.
