North Dayi MP fulfils promise: Opens new classroom block for Yodanu White Cross School
The Member of Parliament (MP) for North Dayi, Mrs. Joycelyn Quashie, has commissioned a newly constructed three-unit classroom block for the Yodanu White Cross Basic School, delivering on a promise she made to the community two years ago.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mrs. Quashie recounted how the late Assemblymember for the Aneta-Yodanu Electoral Area in the Volta Region had drawn her attention to the deplorable condition of the school, where Junior High School (JHS) students were forced to study under trees.
"At the time, I did not have the necessary resources, but I assured him that as long as God give us life, we would build a classroom block for the children,” she said.
“I began the project with my own funds, using part of my salary each month until others later joined to support.”
She expressed appreciation to the District Chief Executive (DCE) and other stakeholders for their collaboration, noting that the project was completed within seven months.
"Today, I am one of the happiest people because we have provided these children with a safe and conducive environment for learning,” she added.
The MP urged teachers and community members to take good care of the facility and revealed that additional development projects were underway in the constituency.
"We are also building nurses’ quarters for the people of Tsrukpe, a clinic, additional classroom blocks, and a library at Vakpo. The DVLA project will soon ensure residents no longer have to travel to Ho or Hohoe for licenses,” she announced.
In response to concerns raised by the headmaster regarding inadequate furniture for teachers, Mrs. Quashie donated ten plastic tables and ten chairs to support the school staff.
District Chief Executive Commends MP
In an address read on his behalf by the Coordinating Director, Mr. John Jones Sedzro, the District Chief Executive for North Dayi, Mr. Ernest Adevor, commended the MP for her commitment to education and community development.
"The opening of this JHS block is not just another event; it represents a major step toward improving access to quality education in our district,” he noted.
“The District Assembly has made provisions for furniture for all classrooms in this block, and we will continue to work hand-in-hand with the MP to ensure equitable development.”
Mr. Adevor urged the community to adopt a strong maintenance culture to ensure the facility’s longevity.
Headmaster Hails Project, Highlights School’s Academic Excellence
The Headmaster of White Cross D.A. Basic School, Mr. Egbenya Prosper, expressed profound gratitude to the MP, describing the day as a “new dawn” for the school.
He recounted the persistent challenges faced since the school’s establishment in 2008 — including inadequate seating and classroom space — yet noted that the school had consistently excelled academically.
"White Cross D.A. Basic School has recorded 100 percent passes in the BECE for six consecutive years, making us the best-performing public school in the North Dayi District,” he said proudly.
Mr. Egbenya also paid tribute to the late Assembly Member, Mr. Eric Kwesivi, for initiating efforts that led to the project.
He pledged that the facility would be properly maintained for the benefit of both pupils and teachers.
