Pay our Tier 2 by Feb. ending – Teacher coalitions tell gov’t
The Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT) has called on government to pay its contributions to the Ghana Education Service (GES) Occupational Pension Scheme (Tier 2).
The Coalition wants government to pay its contributions by the end of February 2023.
According to the Coalition, although government deducts the contributions monthly from the salaries of its members, the arrears owed it have amassed to over GHS400 million as no payment has been made since March 2022.
The National President of the Coalition of Concerned Teachers, King Ali Awudu, who spoke on behalf of the other three teacher unions said government is cheating teachers by its refusal to pay the contributions.
“The money is not for the government, it’s 5 per cent taken from our salaries and the government has failed to pay the money to the Ghana Education Service Occupational Pension Scheme for the money to be invested to yield returns,” Mr Awudu stated.
He indicated that, members will stop making payments to the National Pensions Regulatory Authority if government fails to pay the arrears.
“What we are saying is that what the government is doing is a cheat, and it is an affront to our future pensions.
“The total amount involved is over GH¢433 million, and we are giving the ultimatum of February 2023, that if by the end of February, the money is not paid, we are going to stop paying the 5% to the National Pensions Regulatory Authority,” Mr Awudu stressed.
