The Vice Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has criticized the current government for allegedly refurbishing existing schools and inaugurating them as new institutions.

Speaking to supporters in Kpetinga, Gushegu Constituency, as part of her campaign in the Northern Region, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang questioned the government’s commitment to expanding quality education access.

"When we opened schools, they were fully complete,” she explained.

“Libraries were stocked, classrooms were furnished, computer labs were equipped, and teachers, along with learning materials, were in place.

That was our definition of a school ready for inauguration.”

She challenged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government to specify how many schools they have genuinely completed in their eight years in office, arguing that merely repainting school buildings constructed by the previous Mahama administration does not constitute new achievements.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang also highlighted initiatives introduced under the Mahama administration to support education, including free uniforms, free sandals, textbooks, and other supplies.

These efforts, she noted, were aimed at bridging educational gaps but were often undervalued by those who "have crossed that bridge" and may overlook the needs of those still struggling for access.

As the December 7 general election approaches, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang urged Ghanaians to vote for John Dramani Mahama, pledging that an NDC government would prioritize education reforms and expand opportunities for all.
