The Sunyani Municipal Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Kofi Lotwu, has called on the government, through the Ministry of Education, to urgently address long-standing concerns affecting teachers across the country.

Speaking in an interview with CTV and Accra FM during the GNAT Delegates Conference held in Sunyani, Mr. Lotwu expressed disappointment over the delay in promoting many teachers who have been due since 2023.

He described the situation as unacceptable and demoralising for hardworking educators.

He also highlighted the plight of teachers, particularly those serving in rural communities, who have qualified for various allowances but have yet to receive them.

“These teachers continue to deliver quality education under challenging conditions, yet the government has failed to honour its commitments,” he said.

Mr. Lotwu stressed that there are several other pressing issues that require immediate government attention and urged the Ministry of Education to act swiftly.

“We are giving the government until the end of June to resolve these issues.

Failure to do so may compel us to take further action,” he warned.

He further encouraged the newly elected Sunyani GNAT executives to stand firm in advocating for the welfare of members and called on all teachers in the municipality to rally behind the new leadership.
