MPox virus

The Mpox virus has been found to persist in sperm for up to six months, according to Ms. Vida Nyarko, a public health nurse at the Effia Kwesimintim Municipal Health Directorate.

Speaking with Emmanuel Akomene Acheampong on Good Morning Taadi, Ms. Nyarko highlighted the importance of this discovery, emphasising the need for individuals who have contracted the virus to take precautions to prevent transmission.

Given the virus's persistence in sperm, Ms. Nyarko stressed the importance of practising safe sex, abstinence, and maintaining a safe sexual life to prevent the spread of Mpox.

She urged individuals to prioritise their health and the health of their partners by adopting responsible sexual behaviours.

The Effia Kwesimintim Municipal Health Directorate has taken proactive steps to educate high-risk groups about Mpox.

According to Ms. Nyarko, the directorate has visited known commercial sex workers and provided them with sensitisation and education on Mpox transmission, prevention, and management.

This effort aims to empower these individuals with the knowledge needed to protect themselves and their clients from the virus.

Ms. Nyarko's revelation underscores the need for comprehensive public health guidance and education on Mpox.

By working together, individuals can help contain the outbreak and prevent further transmission of the virus.
