President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the Kumasi Kejetia-Central Market Redevelopment Project in the Ashanti Region is on track for completion by the end of next year.

Speaking during a visit to the project site as part of his thank-you tour of the region, President Mahama revealed that the project is currently 66 percent complete.

He assured traders and residents that work will be intensified to meet the revised completion timeline.

According to the President, contractors on the ground have expressed confidence that, barring any major setbacks, the massive infrastructure project will be fully completed by the end of 2026. Once completed, the redeveloped market is expected to accommodate approximately 20,000 traders.

President Mahama emphasised that priority will be given to traders who were relocated to make way for the reconstruction. He also disclosed that the section of the Kejetia market that was gutted by fire will be rehabilitated as part of the overall project.

In addition to the Kejetia redevelopment, President Mahama pledged to complete the long-abandoned Krofrom Market.

The market, which has remained incomplete for nearly 17 years, will be revived under his administration, he assured.

Local traders have expressed their appreciation to President Mahama for his commitment to improving market infrastructure. They also appealed for the timely completion of both the Kejetia and Krofrom markets to ease congestion and enhance trading conditions.

Speaking on behalf of the traders, Nana Akosua Pokua, Deputy Queen Mother for Deads Sellers in the Ashanti Region, commended the President for his continued support and dedication to the welfare of market women across the region.
