The Technical University Workers Association of Ghana (TUWAG) has voiced strong concerns over what it describes as continued neglect by the government in the payment of key allowances to its members.

Speaking to CTV News during the Association’s 4th National Delegates Congress in Kumasi, TUWAG President Alhasan Mohammed lamented that junior staff at technical universities have been unfairly excluded from receiving essential allowances such as rent, electricity, and off-campus support benefits already being enjoyed by similar staff in other public institutions.

“This disparity has worsened the already difficult working conditions of our members,” Mr. Mohammed said. “These allowances are not luxuries; they are critical to easing the financial burden on our workers and improving morale.”

He further described the current salaries of junior staff as "meagre" and insufficient to meet their basic needs, stressing that the inclusion of these allowances would significantly cushion their incomes and enhance productivity.

Mr. Mohammed appealed to the government to take urgent steps to address the issue and ensure equitable treatment for all categories of staff within the public sector.

“We are simply asking for fairness,” he added. “Our members contribute meaningfully to the growth of technical education in Ghana and deserve to be treated with dignity.
