Students of the Our Lady of Lourdes Girls' Senior High School in the Kassena-Nankana Municipality of the Upper East Region have held a demonstration.

The demonstration by the students was to register their displeasure with the poor quality of meals served them at dinning sessions.

The students have described the meals served them over the past couple of weeks as “poor and tasteless”.

The students told Class 91.3 FM’s Upper East Regional Correspondent Moses Appiah that over the past weeks, the school has been serving them rice dishes due to inadequate food supply.

The students complained that the poor quality meals are causing some of them issues with their stomach.

During the protest, the students gathered with some clapping their hands and others holding their plates chanting: “We want food.”

Meanwhile, food has been supplied to the school following the demonstration by the students, though inadequate, to cater for the current population of students.

The Our Lady of Lourdes Girls' Senior High School has for a very long time not seen any meaningful renovation.

The school lacks infrastructure while existing infrastructure is in a dilapidated state and needs renovation.

It currently has an old administration block, a library, two technical workshops, a laboratory block, and a rehabilitated vocational skills block.

Also, it has two classroom blocks, and three uncompleted classroom blocks which are being used.

Aside from that, the school has limited staff and accommodation.
