In a significant milestone for youth advocacy and peacebuilding efforts, the International Youth Network for United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 2250 has officially inducted Alhassan Eliasu as its Special Envoy for Africa in charge of Islamic Affairs.

The prestigious induction ceremony, which took place in the presence of dignitaries, community leaders, and youth advocates, celebrated Eliasu’s longstanding commitment to peace, youth empowerment, and interfaith dialogue.

His appointment is seen as a strategic move to advance the objectives of UNSCR 2250, which emphasises the crucial role of young people in promoting peace and security.

As Special Envoy, Eliasu will be instrumental in championing the Network’s mission across Africa, with a special focus on engaging youth in Islamic communities to embrace education, dialogue, and non-violence.

In his remarks to the media following the induction, Ambassador Eliasu urged young people, particularly in the Zongo communities, to prioritise education as a gateway to leadership and diplomatic opportunities.

He also emphasised the need for unity and peaceful coexistence among the youth.

“We must choose peace over violence and education over ignorance.

That is how we build a better future,” Eliasu said, reaffirming his commitment to his new role.

Her Excellency Lilian Sally Addo, who also addressed the gathering, highlighted the relevance of UNSCR 2250 in today’s global landscape.

She noted that the resolution calls for meaningful youth participation in peacebuilding and decision-making processes, adding that empowering young voices is essential for sustainable development.

“The resolution recognises the importance of youth inclusion at the decision-making table to ensure long-lasting peace and security,” she said.

The International Youth Network for UNSCR 2250 continues to promote youth-led peacebuilding efforts globally.
