Four staff members of Somé Senior High School in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region have been remanded into police custody by the Circuit Court at Tokor, facing charges of stealing food items intended for students.
The accused, who pleaded not guilty, include the Assistant Headmistress in charge of academics, the Bursar, the Matron, and the storekeeper.
The court appearance of these officials; Richard Ametorxe (Bursar); Yorm Dzikumu (Matron); and Alex Obuadi (Storekeeper), follows their immediate suspension by the Ghana Education Service (GES).
The GES has also interdicted the Bursar, storekeeper, and Matron, and established a committee to investigate the matter within two weeks.
The incident that led to the arrests occurred on the evening of Friday,24 May 2024. A search initiated by some alumni and the assembly member as the Bursar and Matron were leaving the school uncovered a significant cache of food items, including tin tomatoes, mackerel, cleaning agents, and insecticide spray, in the Matron’s possession.
GES has taken swift action in response to the findings as “the Bursar, the storekeeper, and the Matron have been suspended with immediate effect,” a spokesperson from the service confirmed.
