Vice President celebrates Ghana Teacher Prize

Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang attended the Ghana Teacher Prize celebration at the University of Health and Allied Sciences, accompanied by key government officials.
The event, organised by the National Teaching Council in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Ghana Education Service, focused on the theme "Elevating the Status of Teachers for Quality Education."
In her address, the Vice President conveyed President John Dramani Mahama's appreciation for the teaching fraternity, emphasising education's crucial role in democracy, national development, and the government's reset agenda.
She highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen education policies, including the 'Teacher Dabrɛ' initiative to improve accommodation for rural teachers and a Digital Training Programme to enhance digital literacy among educators.
The Vice President also stressed the importance of mental health and well-being for teachers, calling for continuous capacity building in this area.
She acknowledged the need for further improvements in teachers' working conditions and condemned all forms of indiscipline and violence against educators.
The event celebrated outstanding teachers, with Richard Tiimob of Savelugu SHS receiving the Most Outstanding Teacher award.
Vice President Opoku-Agyemang praised teachers as "architects of our nation's future" and emphasised the nobility and essential nature of their profession.
The Ghana Teacher Prize, established in 1994 under President J.J. Rawlings, continues to recognise the dedication of educators shaping the nation.
The Vice President also called for the revival of Parent-Teacher Associations to strengthen collaboration and promote shared responsibility in education.
