The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) has said the content of the ‘History of Ghana for Basic Schools – Learners’ Book Four’ published and currently in circulation is not a true reflection of what it approved.

This follows the circulation of parts of the text book, published by Excellence Publications, which blames religion for inciting conflicts in Ghana and that Christianity is responsible for poverty in the country.

Reacting to this in a press release, NaCCA noted: “The said publication from Excellence series was taken through the standard protocols established under the approval process of the Council and therefore comes to us as a surprise.”

It further noted that: “The content as published by the media is not the true reflection of what NaCCA approved.”

It revealed that the “material in context is not an approved content material by NaCCA.”

NaCAA added that it “has requested the publishers of the textbook to withdraw the material from the market until such time that issues with respect to the publication of the book have been resolved.”
