A/R: Fire razes two shops at Kumasi Kejetia Market
A fire outbreak at the Kumasi Kejetia Market in the Ashanti Region has destroyed two shops, causing significant losses to traders.
The incident occurred around 5:00 am today, with private security personnel at the market acting swiftly before firefighters, who were already patrolling the market, arrived to bring the situation under control.
Fortunately, no casualties were recorded, and the cause of the fire remains unknown.
This is not the first fire outbreak at the market.
On March 16, 2023, a massive blaze consumed parts of the market, which remain unrepaired.
The President of the Federation of Traders, Nana Kwasi Prempeh, noted that today’s fire occurred before the official market opening time of 5:30 am, raising concerns about security and operational management.
DCFO Peter Tetteh, the Ashanti Regional Fire Commander, has assured the public that investigations have begun to determine the cause of the fire.
Authorities and market leaders are expected to meet in the coming days to assess the situation and put preventive measures in place.
