Accra Mayor orders traders along Korle-Bu road to relocate to Korle- Bu lorry station market

The Mayor of Accra, Mr. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, has directed traders operating along the Korle-Bu stretch to relocate to the designated Korle-Bu New Lorry Station Market.
The directive was issued on Tuesday during the Mayor’s working visit to the Ablekuma South Sub-Metropolitan District, where he engaged traders as part of efforts to decongest the area around the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital and promote safe trading practices.
Mr. Allotey explained that the move aligns with a directive from President John Dramani Mahama, who tasked him to create a more conducive trading environment in the capital.
“The President has asked me to tell you that he came on your behalf and has directed me to ensure that you conduct your activities in a safe and proper environment.
That is why we are moving you to the Korle-Bu Market, which was built some years ago,” the Mayor stated.
He further revealed that an inspection of the market showed that most of the trading sheds were empty, despite being constructed to accommodate traders.
He cautioned that the underuse of the facility could eventually lead to its deterioration and possible collapse.
The relocation exercise is expected to ease congestion along the Korle-Bu stretch while ensuring traders operate in a safer and more organised space.
