Akufo-Addo names gov’t transition team

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has announced the Government’s representatives for the Transition Team, in line with the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 845).

A statement issued on Tuesday, 10 December, outlined the appointments, reaffirming the President’s dedication to ensuring a seamless transfer of executive authority to the incoming administration.

The following individuals will represent the Government side:

Hon. Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, Chief of Staff (Head of the Presidential Staff)

Godfred Yeboah Dame, Attorney-General

Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs

Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, Minister for Finance

Hon. Henry Quartey, Minister for the Interior

Hon. Dominic Nitiwul, Minister for Defence

Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Minister for Foreign Affairs

Hon. Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, Minister for Local Government

Hon. Albert Kan Dapaah, Minister for National Security 

In compliance with Section 1(2) of Act 845, other officials will join the team:

Dr. Evans Aggrey-Darkoh, Head of Civil Service

Dr. Nana Ato Arthur, Head of Local Government Service

Ambassador Mercy Debrah-Karikari, Secretary to the Cabinet

Mr. Edward Asomani, National Security Coordinator

The team’s mandate is to ensure the orderly transfer of power, maintain governance continuity, and preserve national stability.

The Transition Team will be co-chaired by President Akufo-Addo and President-elect John Dramani Mahama.

However, President Akufo-Addo has designated Chief of Staff Akosua Frema Osei-Opare to act as Co-Chair in his absence.

In addition, as stipulated in Section 5(1) of Act 845, Rt. Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye, former Speaker of Parliament, has been appointed to the Advisory Council, which will be chaired by current Speaker Rt. Alban Bagbin.

The statement emphasised the importance of a smooth transition, noting: “The team is tasked with ensuring a seamless and efficient transfer of executive authority, as mandated by the Act, to maintain stability and continuity in governance.”

It also noted that President-elect John Mahama had announced his Transition Team members by Tuesday evening.

The Transition Team is set to be officially inaugurated on Wednesday, 11 December, following a meeting between President Akufo-Addo and President-elect Mahama.
