Alleged coup plot: Kweku Baako deliberately painted me black –ACP Agordzo
Retired police officer ACP Benjamin Agordzo has accused Kweku Baako, Managing Editor of the New Crusading Guide, of supporting the prosecution’s case during Agordzo’s trial for an alleged coup plot.
Mr Agordzo, who was eventually acquitted, claims that Mr Baako used his position as a respected journalist to create a negative perception of him during the proceedings.
Mr Agordzo alleges that Mr Baako used appearances on Accra-based Joy FM’s News File to paint him as an unstable officer, mentioning, for example, an incident in 2007 when Mr Agordzo was briefly removed from the police service and later reinstated with a reduced rank after petitioning the Police Council.
According to Mr Agordzo, Mr Baako presented this information in a way that cast him as erratic, knowing it would influence public opinion against him.
Speaking on The Citizen’s Show with Kwabena Bobie Ansah on Accra 100.5 FM on October 31, 2024, Mr Agordzo voiced his belief that Mr Baako’s comments on radio were intended to support the prosecution and stir public sentiment against him during the trial.
He denied ever being part of the TAG WhatsApp group linked to the alleged plot, accusing Mr Baako of implying otherwise during his media appearances.
Mr Agordzo also shared plans to petition the Police Council for a promotion, asserting that he should have retired at the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) or Commissioner of Police (COP) with full retirement benefits.
Additionally, he indicated his intention to sue the state for damages.
