Artist Nicholas Kowalski raises alarm over rising inequality and unfairness in Ghana
Renowned international artist and master, Mr. Nicholas Nana Yaw Kowalski, has expressed deep concern over what he describes as rampant unfairness in Ghanaian society.
Speaking during an interview on the MASTER OF THE GAME personality profile show hosted by His Royal Blackness, King Kwasi Kyei Darkwah(KKD), on Accra-based CTV on Monday, December 30, 2024, Mr. Kowalski warned of potential unrest if urgent steps are not taken to address the situation.
“The levels of unfairness in the system have reached alarming heights,” he said.
“If care is not taken, the people may soon revolt.”
Mr. Kowalski criticized the disproportionate distribution of the country’s resources, urging leaders to ensure fairness and equity.
He condemned the practice of political elites taking the lion’s share of state resources while neglecting the needs of ordinary citizens.
Highlighting the stark disparities in how justice is served, he questioned why an ordinary person who steals a loaf of bread faces years in jail, while influential individuals who embezzle state funds often go unpunished.
“The system where the rich get away with almost everything while the poor are harshly punished is deeply troubling,” he noted.
Mr. Kowalski attributed the problem to a failure of leadership, arguing that many of the nation’s leaders lack the qualities of true leadership.
“Leaders should be born to serve the people, not to serve themselves,” he said, lamenting that some leaders appear to be learning on the job rather than being prepared to prioritize the interests of the populace.
He urged Ghanaians to hold their leaders accountable, emphasizing that such accountability is crucial to addressing societal inequalities and fostering fairness.
“The time has come for Ghanaians to demand better from their leaders and correct the systemic injustices plaguing our society,” he concluded.
