Ashalajah floods: Help us NADMO is helpless-Assemblyman

The Assemblyman for Ashalajah Electoral Area, Mr. Gilbert Kwame Apetor, has issued an urgent appeal for assistance as devastating floods have engulfed the area following heavy rains on Tuesday night.
Speaking on the Ghana Yensom morning show hosted by Otafrigya Kaayire Kwesi Appea-Apreku on Accra 100.5 FM, Mr. Apetor highlighted the dire situation faced by residents.
"We need help; my people are suffering," he emphasized, describing the widespread distress caused by the flooding.
The deluge occurred when the Densu River in the area overflowed its banks, leading to severe inundation.
According to Mr. Apetor, almost every home in Ashalajah has been affected, forcing residents to abandon their houses and sleep outside.
In his efforts to seek immediate relief, Mr. Apetor reached out to the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) in the Ga West municipality.
However, the response he received was disheartening.
He was informed that the situation was beyond NADMO's capabilities and required intervention from the central government.
Similarly, the Ga West Municipal Assembly echoed this sentiment, indicating that the issue of the Densu River overflowing its banks is a central government problem.
Consequently, no NADMO officials have been dispatched to the scene, leaving the residents in a state of despair.
Mr. Apetor expressed grave concerns about the potential outbreak of diseases due to the flooding.
He called on well-meaning individuals and organizations to come to the aid of the Ashalajah community to prevent further suffering and health hazards.
