C/R: MP cuts sod for dormitory projects in Awutu Senya West
The Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya West Constituency in the Central Region and Deputy Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Gizella Tetteh Agbotui, has cut the sod for the construction of new dormitory blocks for selected senior high schools within the constituency.
The project is aimed at addressing persistent accommodation challenges confronting schools in the constituency.
The new facilities will include boys’ and girls’ dormitories, teachers’ bungalows and modern washroom amenities.
The schools, Bawjiase Senior High School and Obrachire Senior High Technical School, are the first beneficiaries of the initiative.
Each school is expected to receive two dormitory blocks—one for boys and one for girls—along with the accompanying facilities.
Speaking to the media during the sod-cutting ceremony, Hon. Agbotui emphasised the urgency of the intervention, noting that some schools had been compelled to convert classroom blocks into dormitories due to inadequate infrastructure.
She reaffirmed her commitment to tackling educational challenges in the constituency and improving conditions for both students and teachers.
The District Chief Executive for Awutu Senya West, Kalala Nyamekye Eghan, explained that the project forms part of the district’s “Back To School” initiative.
According to him, the programme was introduced to address key challenges in the education sector, including insufficient desks, accommodation shortages and the need for incentives to boost teacher motivation.
He expressed optimism that the new infrastructure would enhance the learning environment and improve academic outcomes in the district.
