C/R: Seven family members perish in fire outbreak at Dunkwa Akyempim
A devastating fire outbreak at Akyempim in the Upper Denkyira East Municipality of the Central Region has claimed the lives of seven members of a family in the early hours of Saturday, November 1, 2025.
According to a statement issued by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) on November 5, 2025, the Dunkwa-On-Offin Fire Station received a distress call at approximately 1:04 a.m. and promptly responded to the incident, which involved a four-bedroom house.
Upon arrival, firefighters found one of the bedrooms fully engulfed in flames and locked with a padlock.
The crew managed to contain the blaze within minutes, preventing it from spreading to the remaining rooms.
Tragically, seven family members including five children aged between one and fifteen years, their mother, and her eldest daughter, perished in the fire.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased woman’s husband allegedly set the room ablaze, locking the victims inside before fleeing into a nearby bush, where he reportedly took his own life.
The charred remains of the victims were handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further investigation. The police later discovered the body of the suspect hanging in the bush.
The Ghana National Fire Service extended its condolences to the bereaved family and urged the public to remain vigilant and fire-safety conscious.
It also encouraged the public to report fire outbreaks immediately by calling emergency numbers 112, 0201500360, or 0302772446 to enable a timely response and save lives.
The GNFS reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property while urging Ghanaians to adopt preventive measures to reduce fire-related tragedies.
