CDS hosts two-star generals in valedictory meeting at Burma Camp

The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Major General William Agyapong, on Monday, 28 April 2025, hosted a valedictory meeting with all Two-Star Generals of the Ghana Armed Forces at his office at Burma Camp.
During the gathering, Major General Agyapong expressed profound appreciation for the professionalism, dedication, and exceptional service the Generals have rendered to the nation.
He conveyed gratitude on behalf of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, acknowledging the Generals' significant contributions to strengthening national security and defence.
The CDS announced that, in line with the Ghana Armed Forces regulations and to enhance command and control structures, many of the Generals present would be honourably released from service.
He praised their distinguished careers and reassured them of the high esteem in which their service is held.
Speaking on behalf of the Two-Star Generals, Major General Irvine Aryeetey, Commandant of the National College of Defence Studies, noted that the reshuffling of military leadership was a longstanding tradition within the Armed Forces.
He cited past examples, including the succession from Lt Gen OB Akwa to Vice Admiral S Amoama, a transition across five intakes, and from Vice Admiral S Amoama to General T Oppong-Peprah, which spanned three intakes.
He emphasised that the current transition from General T Oppong-Peprah to Major General William Agyapong, covering four intakes, was consistent with the established norms of military leadership succession.
Major General Aryeetey commended the CDS for the gesture of formally hosting the outgoing Generals, describing it as a novel and respectful acknowledgement of their service.
The meeting concluded with a luncheon hosted by Major General Agyapong, where he wished the departing Generals success in their future endeavours.
Also in attendance were the Service Chiefs and the Chief of Staff at the General Headquarters.
