Concerned Drivers demand removal of Transport Minister over poor performance
The Concerned Drivers Association has called for the immediate removal of the Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, accusing him of failing to deliver meaningful improvements in the transport sector.
The Public Relations Officer of the Association, David Agboado, said the call is in line with President John Dramani Mahama’s vision to “rebuild and reset Ghana,” which he explained requires fresh ideas, decisive action, and strong leadership across all sectors.
According to Mr. Agboado, while many Ministers are making visible progress in their respective sectors, the same cannot be said for the Minister of Transport.
“Most sectors are performing and improving in Ghana, but our sector Minister is not delivering,” he said.
Mr Agboado made this speaking in an interview on Accra 100.5 FM's evening news on Thursday January 15, 2026
“We must call a spade a spade and stop pretending when things are clearly not working.”
He stressed that the Transport Minister must take concrete steps to support commercial transport operators, particularly by facilitating the importation of vehicles to ease the burden on drivers and improve service delivery to the public.
“If the Minister raises his game, commercial operators can get access to vehicles to serve the people better,” Mr. Agboado noted.
He further clarified that the Association’s demand for the Minister’s removal does not mean they want a simple replacement with similar performance.
“We do not need another underperforming Minister.
We need a Minister who will perform and move the transport sector forward,” he said.
Mr. Agboado questioned why the Minister continues to remain in office despite what he described as persistent challenges in the sector, insisting that Ghana’s reset agenda can only succeed if all Ministers are held accountable for results.
