Defence Minister engages National Cadet Corps ahead of Republic Day anniversary

As part of preparations to mark Ghana’s 65th anniversary as a Republic, the Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, held a high-level meeting last week with the leadership of the National Cadet Corps at his office at The Square, Ministry of Defence in Accra.
The meeting highlighted the enduring legacy of the Cadet Corps, which was established 71 years ago at the Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS) in the Western Region.
The Corps was founded in pursuit of national self-determination, with the aim of instilling values of patriotism, discipline, and service in the youth of Ghana.
Dr. Omane Boamah commended the Cadet Corps for its longstanding contribution to national development and civic education.
He noted that the government remains committed to nurturing patriotic leadership among young people.
“In this era of national renewal and civic responsibility, the vision that inspired the creation of the Cadet Corps is more relevant than ever,” the Minister stated.
As part of the government’s broader #ResettingGhana agenda, Dr. Omane Boamah also announced a new initiative encouraging National Service Personnel to volunteer for training under the Ghana Armed Forces.
The move is aimed at strengthening national character, enhancing discipline, and preparing young people to play active roles in national security, community service, and development.
“We are calling on National Service Personnel across the country to step up and join this voluntary training initiative.
It’s a call to serve, to lead, and to secure Ghana’s future,” he added.
The Defence Ministry is expected to roll out details of the training programme in the coming weeks, ahead of Republic Day celebrations on July 1, 2025.
