Defence Minister unveils bold vision for Ghana’s defence industrialisation

In a significant step toward advancing Ghana’s defence and economic transformation, Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah has inaugurated a new Governing Board for the Defence Industries Holding Company Limited (DIHOC).
The inauguration took place shortly after the 44th Guard Changing Ceremony at the Jubilee House and a high-level meeting with President John Mahama on the country’s ongoing efforts to combat illegal mining.
Describing the event as a "milestone moment," Dr. Boamah said the reconstituted DIHOC Board is expected to play a pivotal role in positioning Ghana as a hub for defence manufacturing, innovation, and strategic industrial partnerships.
"Our vision for DIHOC is clear," the Minister said. “We are committed to establishing a world-class Defence Industrial Complex (DIC) that will drive industrialization, generate decent and well-paying jobs, and significantly boost the national economy.”
He added that this initiative aligns with the broader government agenda of building a 24-hour economy to enhance productivity and unlock new employment opportunities.
The new DIHOC Board will be chaired by Mr. Ernest Brogya Genfi. Other members include:
Emmanuel A. Kartey, Chief Director of the Ministry of Defence
Lieutenant General William Agyapong, Chief of Defence Staff
Brigadier General Kwaku Dankwa Hagan
Brigadier General Charles Gbekle (Esq.)
Kojo Gyeke Darko
Vida Addae
Emmanuel Drah, Member of Parliament
Colonel John Asabre (Rtd.)
Dr. Boamah assured the Board of government’s full backing, expressing confidence in their capacity to steer DIHOC toward achieving its ambitious objectives.
“This is more than a defence project—it’s an economic revolution,” he said.
