ECG chases Gbetsile 'Electro-man' for illegally connecting, distributing power to 33 customers
A customer of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), resident at Gbetsile in Accra, has connected power to 33 structures illegally.
The power-distributing company discovered this during its recent nationwide mobilisation exercise.
Some of the residents who had been benefiting from the illegal connection, told officials of the ECG they had been paying bills monthly to the person who connected them.
The offender, however, absconded when he saw officials of the power-distributing company.
The ECG officials located the metre used for the illegal connection.
Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of the ECG in the Tema Region has called on the person behind the illegal power connection to report to the offices of the power-distributing company.
He explained that: “This customer has decided to distribute power to the other 33 structures. Further checks also revealed that the owner of the metre had done an illegal connection in the form of a metre bypass. Which means that all the power they are using does not pass through the metre, so they are not paying for using the power.”
The Tema ECG PRO added: “The culprit fled upon seeing the ECG personnel, so we could not get him. We have served a summons letter and asked that he reports to the Tema ECG office, and if it gets to prosecution, we will do that.”
ECG began another nationwide revenue mobilisation exercise, Monday, 29 May 2023.
The exercise is expected to end on Friday, 2 June 2023.
