More than a hundred traders on Monday staged a peaceful protest against what they described as an unlawful attempt by the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly (ASHMA) to evict them from their business location near the Ashaiman traffic light.

The traders, clad in red attire and holding placards, accused the Assembly of acting in the interest of a private developer despite an ongoing court case over the disputed land.

According to the group, they possess valid legal documents permitting them to operate at the site and insist that any move to remove them before a final court ruling amounts to contempt of the judicial process.

Spokesperson for the traders, Jeffrey Eli, condemned ASHMA’s actions, describing them as a “blatant disregard for the rule of law.”

“They are manipulating the system to forcibly take over the land despite the pending legal process,” Eli told reporters, vowing that the traders would resist any attempts to eject them until the court delivers judgment.

Several other demonstrators voiced similar concerns, calling the move an injustice and warning that it threatened their livelihoods.

The protest, which was closely monitored by security personnel, remained calm with no reports of violence.
