GA/R: Tema West MP launches clean-up campaign to prevent flooding in Community 2

As the rainy season sets in, the Member of Parliament for Tema West in the Greater Accra Region, James Enu, has teamed up with the Tema West Municipal Assembly, the Meridian Youth Network, and the community group Bus Stop Boys to roll out a three-day clean-up exercise in Community 2 (BBC).
The campaign, focused on desilting clogged gutters and clearing accumulated waste, is aimed at enhancing the free flow of rainwater and reducing the risk of flooding in the area—an annual concern for residents.
Addressing participants during the exercise,Mr Enu underscored the urgency of the intervention.
He pointed to indiscriminate refuse dumping and unregulated construction near drainage paths as major causes of frequent flooding in the community.
“This exercise is a necessary step to protect lives and property.
We must take proactive action now before the rains cause any damage,” the MP stated.
He also highlighted the importance of public education, noting that the Assembly and other stakeholders are stepping up awareness campaigns to promote a culture of cleanliness and responsible waste management.
Gabriel Asare, a representative of the Meridian Youth Network, reiterated the group’s commitment to working with the authorities to not only clean drains but also repair damaged drainage systems that worsen the situation.
Residents welcomed the initiative, expressing hope that it would significantly reduce flood risks during the peak of the rainy season.
Many also called for sustained engagement and improved infrastructure to ensure long-term solutions.
The clean-up campaign is expected to continue across other flood-prone areas within Tema West, with the MP pledging his continued support for environmental health and community safety.
