GAF Recruitment in Accra to resume this week — Deputy Defence Minister assures public of enhanced safety measures
The Deputy Minister for Defence, Ernest Brogya Genfi, has announced that the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) recruitment exercise in the Greater Accra Region will resume later this week, following last Wednesday’s tragic incident that claimed lives and left several injured.
In a brief update, the Deputy Minister assured the public that comprehensive safety measures are being instituted to prevent a recurrence of the stampede that occurred at the El- Wak Sports Stadium during the enlistment process.
Mr. Genfi emphasised that the Ministry of Defence and the Ghana Armed Forces have reviewed the circumstances surrounding the incident and are implementing improved crowd management and emergency response protocols ahead of the resumption.
He called for calm and urged prospective applicants to adhere strictly to new guidelines that will be communicated before the exercise restarts.
The tragic event sparked nationwide concern over the conduct of mass recruitment processes, prompting calls for reforms and better coordination.
The resumption of the exercise is therefore expected to proceed under significantly heightened safety standards.
