GBA honours Akufo-Addo with lifetime award
President Nana Akufo-Addo has been awarded at the Ghana Bar Association’s (GBA) inaugural Lifetime Awards, marking the first time this prestigious accolade has been presented.
The honour was bestowed upon him during the GBA’s annual general conference in Kumasi, Ashanti region, on Monday, 9 September 2024.
Outgoing GBA President Mr Yaw Acheampong Boafo lauded President Akufo-Addo’s contributions, stating, "the Ghana Bar Association hereby confers on His Excellency, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the first-ever recipient of the Ghana Bar Association Lifetime Award."
This award recognises President Akufo-Addo’s remarkable impact on the legal profession and his exceptional leadership in both legal and political arenas.
It highlights his unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law and advancing democracy in Ghana.
Mr Boafo praised the president’s illustrious legal career and pivotal roles within the GBA.
"President Akufo-Addo, who was enrolled as a lawyer on July 8, 1975, with Bar number 1195, has held several significant positions within the GBA," he noted.
"He served as President of the Greater Accra Bar and was a member of the General Council of the Ghana Bar Association. In 1995, he sought the position of National President of the GBA but withdrew due to his political commitments."
Reflecting on his achievements, Mr Boafo added: "On January 7, 2017, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was inaugurated as the fifth President of the Fourth Republic of Ghana, becoming the first member of the General Council of the Bar to ascend to the presidency."
