Haruna Iddrisu stresses youth empowerment as key to tackling unemployment

The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has underscored the importance of equipping Ghana’s youth with the right skills to address the country’s growing unemployment challenge.
Speaking at the launch of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI) Junior Chamber at Takoradi Technical University in the Western Region, the Minister emphasized that youth entrepreneurship is not just an option but a necessity for Ghana’s economic transformation.
“With over 57% of our population under the age of 25, Ghana has a young and energetic workforce ready to propel economic growth,” he stated.
However, he stressed that for this potential to be realized, the country must create an enabling environment where young entrepreneurs can thrive.
He reiterated that the Government of H.E. John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are prioritizing skills training, entrepreneurship, and job creation as key pillars for Ghana’s sustainable development.
Delivering the Minister’s message on his behalf, Zakaria Sulemana, Director-General of the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fostering entrepreneurship among young people.
“We believe that the key to solving Ghana’s unemployment challenge lies in equipping young people with the right skills, providing access to finance, and creating opportunities for innovation and business development,” he stated.
The President of GNCCI, Mr. Stephane Miezah, encouraged students to seize entrepreneurial opportunities and promised to organize more programs that allow them to showcase their talents.
He highlighted GNCCI’s vision of empowering young entrepreneurs and fostering innovation to drive national development.
