IGP Yohonu transfers police officers in leaked tape saga to 'sensitive positions'

The Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has reassigned senior police officers, Superintendent Emmanuel Eric Gyebi and Superintendent George Lysander Asare, to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters and the Judicial Protection Unit, respectively.
The two officers were implicated in a leaked tape that detailed a plot to remove former Inspector-General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare.
Their conduct during their subsequent appearance before the parliamentary committee that investigated the matter raised concerns about their professionalism within the Ghana Police Service.
After its deliberations, the committee recommended that the officers face disciplinary action for their involvement in the scandal.
However, in what some within the police service perceive as a promotion rather than a punitive measure, the new IGP has transferred them to highly sensitive positions.
This decision, according to sources with the police, has sparked debate among officers, with many questioning whether it aligns with efforts to uphold discipline and ethical standards within the service.
According to sources, the move has generated significant discontent among personnel, who argue that it could undermine accountability within the police force.
Some officers believe that the reassignment of the two men may be interpreted as tacit approval of their alleged misconduct, potentially setting a concerning precedent.
