Interior Minister joins Ghana School of Law students for Ramadan Iftar in Kumasi
The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, has joined Muslim students of the Ghana School of Law, Kumasi Campus, for their Grand Iftar to mark the breaking of the Ramadan fast.
The event, held in Kumasi, brought together students and members of the Muslim community on campus, with the Minister serving as the Guest of Honour.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Muntaka shared memories from his days as a student at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
He recounted how Muslim students initially faced challenges in organising congregational Friday prayers on campus.
According to him, the students at the time began observing Jumua prayers at the university’s Great Hall, KNUST and went through a prolonged struggle before eventually gaining permission to hold congregational prayers on campus.
He explained that the efforts of the Muslim community later led to the acquisition of land for what is now the university’s Central Mosque.
The Interior Minister also encouraged the students to approach their legal studies and future practice with strong Islamic values and moral consciousness.
He noted that such principles would help reshape perceptions about Muslims within the legal profession, adding that many within the community currently do not hold the profession in high esteem.
Mr. Muntaka also offered prayers for departed souls and urged the students to remain committed to integrity and service as they pursue careers in law.
