Mahama condemns attacks on state offices, urges perpetrators to stop ransacking
President-elect John Dramani Mahama has warned individuals behind the recent ransacking of state offices, calling for an immediate halt to such acts of vandalism.
In a national address on Tuesday, 10 December, Mr. Mahama condemned the incidents, which reports indicate were allegedly perpetrated by supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The attackers are said to have stormed several government institutions, ransacked offices, and caused significant disturbances.
“These actions are unacceptable and must stop immediately. I urge everyone involved in these acts to desist. This is not the way to achieve our goals or rebuild our nation,” Mr. Mahama stated.
The President-elect emphasised the importance of calm and respect for the rule of law, urging all citizens to avoid behaviour that could destabilise the country.
“I’ve received reports of attacks on state offices and installations. Regardless of who is behind these actions, I condemn them in no uncertain terms. These acts must cease immediately,” he said.
Mr. Mahama also appealed to the youth to redirect their energy towards rebuilding Ghana, rather than engaging in criminal activities.
“As I said during my post-declaration speech, I urge the youth not to vent their frustration through destructive means. Instead, they must channel their anger and frustration into the positive enterprise of resetting and rebuilding our beloved nation,” he encouraged.
Calling for restraint, Mr. Mahama reminded Ghanaians of their shared responsibility to protect the country’s democratic institutions.
“We have fought hard for change, but that change must be meaningful and constructive. Destroying what holds our nation together is not the answer,” he stated.
Mr. Mahama also assured the public of his commitment to a peaceful transition and urged cooperation from all parties to maintain stability.
“Now is the time for unity and a collective effort to rebuild Ghana through peaceful and democratic means,” he reiterated.
