Majority backs Chief of Staff’s directive to withdraw post-December 7 recruitments

The Majority Caucus in Parliament has firmly endorsed the Chief of Staff’s directive to withdraw all post-December 7 recruitments, following concerns raised by the Minority Leader on the floor of Parliament today regarding the legality of the directive.
The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, criticized the decision, arguing that it does not serve the best interests of the state.
However, in response, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga defended the directive, emphasizing that the transition team had warned the outgoing administration against making last-minute recruitments to prevent undue financial strain on the new government, especially given the country’s distressed economy.
Mr. Ayariga further revealed that some government agencies had seen an unjustified increase in staffing, citing an example where an agency that had just 120 employees in 2016 had now ballooned to over 1,000 workers, despite no expansion in assets or operations.
He stressed that the Majority fully supports the Chief of Staff’s decision, insisting that the move is necessary to streamline governance and manage the country’s fiscal challenges.
