Military warns public against attacking personnel on authorised duties

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has issued a stern caution to the public following recent attempts by mobs to disarm military personnel on authorised duty.
The statement, released by Brigadier General E. Aggrey-Quashie, Director General of Public Relations, emphasised that such acts endanger the lives of security officers and innocent civilians.
The GAF noted that military personnel are currently supporting the Ghana Police Service to restore law and order across the country.
In light of these incidents, the military reiterated that soldiers on duty are fully entitled to defend themselves and others, including the use of lethal force where necessary.
“Military personnel on authorised duty have the right to defend themselves, innocent civilians, and property, including the use of lethal force, if necessary to preserve life,” the statement affirmed.
The release further urged citizens to act responsibly and cooperate with security personnel.
“GAF wishes to encourage all Ghanaians to exercise their civic rights responsibly, cooperate with security personnel, and refrain from any acts that could disrupt the peace,” the statement urged.
Emphasising their dedication to national stability, the GAF assured the public of their unwavering commitment to protecting the country’s sovereignty.
