The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has refuted allegations that portions of military prime land in Accra, including the residences of the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) and Chief of the Army staff (COAS), have been sold to a private developer.

According to the report, “terms of the transaction are not known and that some senior officers sold parts of the lands on the claims that they were too big, hence becoming very difficult to maintain”.

In a statement on Wednesday, 22 November 2023, responding to the report, the GAF stated categorically that “no military lands have been sold to a private developer by the Armed Forces; as the institution is only a custodian of the lands it is using and does not have any authority or right to dispose of same”.

It indicated that there “are plans to redevelop the area in question to increase the number of residential accommodations in line with the expansion programme of GAF”.

It further indicated that the area in question has only 2 residential accommodations, however, after the redevelopment, it is envisaged that the number of residential accomodation for senior officers will increase to 13.

It added that the report by the Herald Newspaper is “false” and that “no military lands have been sold to a private developer”.
