O/R: Nkwanta conflict not political but tribal-MP

The Member of Parliament for Nkwanta South Constituency in the Oti Region, Geoffrey Kini, has expressed deep concern over the ongoing conflict in the municipality, attributing the unrest to tribal differences rather than political tensions.
Speaking to Class News during a relief exercise led by the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Mr. Kini emphasised the urgent need for reconciliation and unity.
NADMO had distributed food items and essential supplies to victims and displaced families affected by the violence.
“This conflict is not political—it is rooted in tribal differences.
Over 1,900 people have been displaced, and it’s time we prioritise reconciliation over division,” the MP stated.
His comments come in the wake of a recent violent clash in the area, which resulted in the deaths of seven individuals, left several others injured, and led to the destruction of properties.
The unrest reportedly stems from ongoing tribal tensions and land litigation issues between some factions within the municipality.
Mr. Kini expressed gratitude to NADMO for their timely support and called on all stakeholders to show solidarity in helping victims rebuild their lives.
In a related appeal, the Municipal Chief Executive for Nkwanta South, Joseph Antwi Awal, also urged calm and cooperation among the various tribes in the area.
He stressed the importance of dialogue in addressing grievances and preventing further escalation.
"We must come together as one people and talk to one another. Violence will only worsen the situation,” the MCE said.
