Rainstorm expected to sweep across Ghana-GMET
A developing rainstorm system is expected to move steadily across Ghana, bringing widespread cloud cover, thunderstorms, and rainfall of varying intensities, according to the latest weather update issued by the Ghana Meteorological Agency(GMET).
The weather system, which is currently near Ghana's border, is forecast to propagate across several parts of the country over the coming hours, creating conditions for thunderstorms and intermittent rainfall.
Forecasters have also indicated that a separate storm system currently over northern Benin is likely to move westward and affect Ghana's Upper Regions later tonight and into the early morning hours.
Authorities have cautioned that the storms may be accompanied by gusty winds capable of causing damage to weak structures, uprooting trees, and affecting visibility for motorists.
Residents have also been warned of the possibility of localised flooding, particularly in low-lying communities and flood-prone areas, as rainfall intensifies.
The warning comes amid ongoing concerns about flooding in parts of the country following recent heavy rains.
Members of the public are being advised to monitor weather updates closely and take the necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
Motorists have been urged to exercise caution while driving during periods of heavy rainfall, while residents in vulnerable communities are encouraged to avoid floodwaters and move to safer locations if necessary.
Emergency management agencies are expected to remain on alert as the weather system moves across the country.
Authorities have urged citizens to promptly report emergencies and cooperate with safety directives as efforts continue to minimise the impact of severe weather conditions.
